SURGE Mission Trip

A group of thirteen fourth, fifth and sixth who are a part of the SURGE Group at RockChurch in East Peoria were given a LLL grant to attend the Your Obedient Servants Mission Camp in Petersburg, Illinois. During the week, students served at many different locations in Springfield and Petersburg. At Washington Street Mission students served pastries and coffee to guests and spent time talking with them and playing cards. Additionally, the team cleaned out an upstairs apartment and demolished old furniture to create offices for the Mission. At MERCY Community, the group cleaned out and furnished apartments for women and children leaving domestic violence situations. The students selected toys, bedding and artwork for the apartments. At Kumler Outreach, they sorted infant clothing and blankets that will be given to moms in need in Springfield. The team also helped unpack and organize their food pantry. At Meals on Wheels, the group delivered healthy meals to recipients who were in need. At Operation Christmas Child, they helped fill boxes for over 500 children overseas who aren’t likely to receive other gifts for Christmas. The boxes were prayed over as they were filled. According to leader, Theresa, “All were greatly moved by the work we did and everyone is excited to attend again next year.”
