Leadership Workshop in Liberia

Joe is a young man from Liberia who came to the U.S. several years ago for a high school study abroad program. He is now a college student in the States and is passionate about helping youth in his home country. He established a Leadership/Career Development Workshop for forty-eight young people who spent a week listening to speakers, learning about career opportunities, and establishing relationships with mentors. Students also learned about hygiene and the young women were given sanitary pads which make it possible for them to attend school without interruption. It is commonplace for women in Liberia to miss school during their period each month.

According to Joe, “This is a huge opportunity in our part of the world. Change and education is key for the next generation of girls and boys being raised to think differently.”
